Hey everyone, I just upgraded my laptop to windows 10 and wanted to share a bit of warning for anyone who hasn't done so yet. Deactivate your Novel Software on the computer BEFORE you upgrade. Whatever registry key that flags your software as activated does not survive the upgrade.

If you deactivate before the upgrade it will free up your license so you can reactivate after the upgrade.

Cheers

That's really useful advice - many thanks for sharing that.

I'll add that if you do end up losing an activation because a computer is taken out of action for whatever reason and you are unable to access it again to deactivate, then please contact us and we will help resolve it so you can use the software on two computers again.

Obviously, please do try to deactivate first wherever possible.

There are a couple of mentions in these forums of TNF being limited to use on TWO computers.

But on the main website FAQs, it says, "You can now install the Novel Factory on as many PCs as you like, as long as it’s for personal use only."

Which is correct?

Anything special I need to know if I plan on installing on 2 (or more?) home PCs?

Thank you.

Hi FredFoo,

The information on the website is correct - you can install and use the software on as many PCs as you like.

Our original licensing model, when the software was released in 2012, only allowed installation and activation on two PCs per user.  We changed the licensing model around the end of March 2016 to allow unlimited installations, so any posts mentioning the two PC limitation probably date from earlier than that.  All versions of the software since 1.19 allow unlimited installations (current version is 1.26).
