I have a question on the Short Synopsis. In the Roadmap directions, it says:

"Expand each of the sentences from your Story Skeleton into a paragraph. The short synopsis should be about a page long. That's only about 500 words."

That implies just copying the sentences into one paragraph, instead of expanding them, right? Because if I expand the sentences into separate paragraphs, the Short Synopsis will be much longer than one page.

But then in the directions for the Extended Synopsis, it says,

"Extend each paragraph of your Short Synopsis into about 500 words."

That implies that the Short Synopsis does consist of many separate paragraphs.

So, should the Short Synopsis consist of one paragraph, or many?

I don't mean to quibble. I've been skipping over this aspect because I didn't understand it, but I love the Novel Factory. I want to understand and use each step to its full potential. Thanks!

Hi there! Thanks for your message. The main thing to focus on is that the Short Synopsis should be about a page, and the Extended Synopsis about four or five pages. I wouldn't get too hung up on where the paragraphs are at this stage - although they can be helpful to indicate changes of scene. And also please remember that these are very loose guidelines, and if you need your Short Synopsis to be two pages - then there's no need to follow the guidelines to the letter. They are there to provide a framework, not be bars of a cage. Does that help?

Yes, that helps. I knew the paragraphing would be important later when generating scenes, but I guess the Short Synopsis is too early to worry about that. Thanks for answering so promptly.    🙂
